Zoid City Community and Community competition
Zoid is a very original competition which does things very differently from most competitions out there.
Founded:
Spring 1999
Founded by:
Eileen H. Kramer
Opening Date:
June 6, 1999
Reason Opened:
Eileen didn't believe in the 10 point score system, she saw it as unfair because you could be way behind your competitor (or ahead for that matter) or right behind them - there was no good way to know how many more votes would be needed to win. She also believed that the team structure was uneven and inconsistent. On a 'bad' team, you could easily move up to the higher levels, but have no support from your teammates/team leader. On a 'good' team, you may never make it past the first level as the fighters are generally more spirited. Eileen also didn't believe that censorship - not allowing sites into the competition because of what is on their website - was the right of the competition, and she also believed that if you had a complaint about something, it should be heard. Finally, she wanted a competition that also focused on learning and making your website even better.
VE or NVE:
Vote Exchange
Slogan:

Original Ideas:
Zoid's voting system is quite unique in that scores are based on a percentile range method. Their approval rules are quite lenient and they stand behind free expression. Finally, they created a one-pass voting booth so that people did not have to go to various webpages to vote each day.
History:
Zoid was originally created for 400 people, however with their unique way of competing, they quickly had to size down to about 10 competitors. They originally had 'work weeks' every other week to help competitors learn various web related things to make their pages better. Over time though this regulation stopped and became voluntary instead. However, the every other week voting schedule held firm.
In November of 1999 Zoid had a few problems as Eileen's hard drive crashed. Fortunately most items were able to be saved, but all historical data was lost.
Eileen became burnt out in January of 2000 and while Zoid continued running, recruiting for new sites had stopped. After a short break, Eileen was back and ready to go.
As Eileen writes 'ZOID may be small, but we are a success.'
