The Web Leagues
The Web Leagues view themselves as more of an online community than a web competition based on the continents of the world.
Founded:
February 17, 2003
Founded by:
Lord BoomBoom
Opening Date:
February 17, 2003
Reason Opened:
The Web Leagues started with a unique format which is usually followed by the NFL and other leagues. Each member site was put against another site each day. Since then, the competition has changed to a more 'normal' format.
VE or NVE:
Vote Exchange & No Vote Exchange
Slogan:
An Effort to a Peaceful World
Original Ideas:
The format was unique and throughout we tried to base the competition around the modern world. Also the first competition to put up scores 'in real time'.
History:
Lord BoomBoom started the competition with an original idea to have it run like the NFL does. Web Leagues was opened in coordination with Terri, the owner of Fun Battles and followed a pattern laid down by the Seven Wonders of the World whereby the competition is open Monday - Thursday and closed for the last week of the month.
BoomBoom had this idea of having a contest where fighters fight each other each day and they get 2 points for winning, 1 for draw and 0 for a loss. The concept followed the various leagues played like NBA, NFL etc and hence the name Web Leagues. Terri, owner of Fun Battles, was actively involved in the formation of the comp. BoomBoom ran this comp single handedly for 4 months. Then it became too much to handle alone as he had just started some engineering courses. BoomBoom decided to close the comp for 1 month and as fate would have it, he asked Amaranthine whether she would be a TL for the comp and later on the owner. Amaranthine accepted after a bit of hesitation and thats when The Web Leagues changed the format to more like a 'normal' comp so that it was easier to follow.
Later in 2004, BoomBoom and Amaranthine asked Alice to be the co-owner and she accepted. The Web Leagues have changed the format of their competition and teams three times now and are still going strong.
The Web Leagues is now fully owned and ran by Amaranthine and Alice. Amaranthine has been involved in the comp world for about six years as a competitor.
During the summer of 2006 while The Web Leagues is on their summer break, they changed the competition to have both a VE and NVE side to it.
It was announced on January 26, 2007 that another competition, Military Honor Salute, would be merging with Web Leagues.
