Welcome to the world of Web Competitions - this is where it all began. :)
Just to start the pages off and explain it all a little - Dman at The Site Fights clearly had a really good idea when he first started up TSF. However, TSF was not necessarily the first competition - there was another and it was named the 'Rodeo of Links'.
However, TSF was a little more successful than the Rodeo of Links, so shortly after TSF was opened in its original format, the Rodeo of Links merged into the competition as a team. For the sake of making things easier, we will just count TSF as being the first competition as A) they claim that they are *smiles* and B) I have no idea which one was actually started first, however TSF was clearly the more successful competition. In fact, as the Rodeo of Links became a team in TSF, for the purposes of these pages I don't count it as a website competition at all.
These pages are not meant to go through each competitions history in detail - it is simply an easy way of finding out when a competition started, how it started, who started it and why - simply put, a timeline of the major events in Web Competitions history.
Also, I'd like to state that I know that various competitions claim different things - some of them are probably true, and some of them I know are not true. These pages are neutral - they do not favor any competition over any other competitions, and so the things that competitions 'claim' will not be listed in here. However, if something is not listed, and you know for certain that it should be and that it is true, please do fill out the form on the main page, thanks!
Having said all of that, I do hope you enjoy this site and that you learn a little about where web comps came from :)
Please note that web competitions will be put into the year that they actually opened, and not when they were founded. Thanks :)
Love, Sara
